As a Master of Nursing student I am currently learning about Second Life (SL). It has been a frustrating experience. I first had to upgrade my laptop, lost orientation island but when I found it the only thing I got to work was flying. As a group we attempted to have a meeting but could not get everyone talking at once. Most of my issues stemmed from inexperience but the difficult start has dimmed my desire to participate in SL.

[...] Terry Anderson in contrast is pretty much in favour of technology and virtual worlds, but is weary of technology and support issues on getting in the way of learning. SL, it is noted, is not the only game in town. Terry also notes that the disconnect between our real selves and the virtual world is not necessarily a good thing. Here’s an interesting citation: Chester and Breterton (2007) conclude “cyberspace is not a virtual world without connection to the rest of people’s lives. What we do and who we are online are shaped consciously and unconsciously by who we are offline. The Internet is , after all a part of our real life” [...]
